Transportation March!

Dear Robert
We are at a critical point in the legislative session as our state leaders debate transportation funding plans that may fall drastically short of what transit riders need.
Join us for a day of action at the State Capitol to send a strong message to elected leaders that we need a comprehensive funding bill that includes dedicated and sustainable funding for public transit!
“Roll Towards Progress - - Don’t Roll to a Stop” March
11 – 12 pm
Meet at the Leif Ericson statue at the Capitol grounds
Rice St. Green Line Station
The House GOP has released their transportation plan and it has become clear what is at stake for transit:
  • Metro Transit would face drastic service cuts, affecting suburban and core city residents and businesses that rely on it.
  • In the metro area, only a select number of suburbs such as Maple Grove, Plymouth, Eden Prairie, Prior Lake and Eagan would see their transit funding increased.
  • No new light rail lines would be developed for the foreseeable future.
  • Revenues currently in the state General Fund would be dedicated to roads and bridges. This means less money available to fund education and health and human services.
As a community of faith, we believe that transit is vital to serving human dignity so all people have the opportunity to live abundant lives and connect to jobs, schools, health care and others in our community.
We need your faith and your voice as we advance a responsible, comprehensive vision that makes a deep and loving investment in our state’s transit infrastructure so that we care for one another and for our communities.
We hope to see you there!Contact Amity Foster at afoster@isaiahmn.org to RSVP.
P.S. This march will culminate to a rally organized by MoveMN at 12 pm at the Capitol lawn. Join the event on Facebook by clicking here to learn more about the transit march and rally!

School Policies Meeting

Dear GFMBC Family,

Our public school system has reached a critical point.
Nationally and in Minnesota, children of color are more likely to be disciplined, suspended or expelled than their white counterparts, and they are less likely to graduate. These factors in schools often direct our at-risk youth into the criminal justice system before they can graduate from high school. The school-to-prison pipeline sends a grim message to our youth of color that they are criminals and people to be feared.
But as people of faith, we believe in a different message: all children are sacred and deserve the opportunity to be fully included in our society.
ISAIAH parents and educators of faith have been working with Minneapolis Public School administrators to end racial gaps in its school discipline policies. Some policy changes have been made, however, we must continue to take critical steps forward to create equity in our public schools.
JOIN US!
Thursday, April 23, 2015
7 – 9 pm

1800 Glenwood Ave., Mpls, MN, 55405
••

Click here to download and share the flyer
We will gather with parents and educators of faith from the Minneapolis school district to:
  • Discuss how we will make all schools welcoming, restorative and safe for students of color.
  • Examine what we must do to take bold steps to truly eliminate discipline disparities.
  • Share stories about the impact of recent policy changes to end discipline disparities.
Our future requires that everyone be equipped with the tools and understanding needed to participate in our democracy and contribute to our communities.
Register for the event: www.tinyurl.com/educatorsoffaith
We look forward to seeing you there!
Sincerely,
ISAIAH Education and Mass Incarceration Team
