 ISAIAH Education Equity Leaders Meeting - Monday, May 25, 2015 @ 9am

  ISAIAH Education Equity leaders -

Newly elected, at-large school board member Don Samuels has agreed to meet with ISAIAH members from Minneapolis at 9 am on Monday, May 25 (Memorial Day).  Location not yet determined, but likely a coffee shop in Minneapolis.  The St Joan of Arc team initiated this relationship prior to the 2014 elections and has "adopted" Mr Samuels as part of our city-wide Education Equity strategy.  We're very interested in understanding how the school board is addressing the racial opportunity gaps both in terms of current policy and in the process of replacing Superintendent Bernadeia Johnson.
St Joan of Arc ISAIAH team - We are hosting this meeting and maintaining this relationship, so I would ask that we have at the very least two other SJA folks in attendance.

Other ISAIAH Education Equity leaders - You are also very welcome to join us, but there is no obligation to do so.  Strategically, it would be particularly powerful to have leaders from African American congregations at the meeting, since he has only met the St Joan of Arc ISAIAH team so far.
Please let me know if you can attend ASAP, as the group size will determine the venue chosen.

Moving forward, there should be more meetings of this nature set up, so there will be more opportunities to support each other in this endeavor.
God bless,
Greg

 CONTACT OUR REPRESENTATIVES!

GFMBC Family,

The House GOP has voted to repeal MinnesotaCare, despite increasing controversy and widespread opposition. This threatens the Health Care of 100,000 hardworking Minnesotans.
As people of faith we believe all people deserve health, wholeness and prosperity. ISAIAH faith leaders have been central to the development and design of the current health system and we cannot allow our progress to erode!
WE NEED YOU TO ACT! CALL:
Speaker Kurt Daudt: 651-296-5364
And
Senate Majority Leader, Tom Bakk: 651-296-8881
Tell them:
“Hi, my name is ____ and I live in ______. The House has voted to repeal Minnesota Care and this is unacceptable. MinnesotaCare has proven to be a critical component to creating health and vitality for members of our community who are struggling. As a person of faith I believe all people are sacred and deserve dignity – we must protect MinnesotaCare to protect families in our community. Thank you.”
The House version would require hard working Minnesotans to apply for Health Insurance on the Health Exchange with premiums at least doubling or tripling what they currently pay for a minimal, high deductible policy. This despite the fact that the state has a projected $2 billion surplus.
Currently, MinneostaCare is paid for through a 2% provider tax (57%) and by the Federal government (43%). Premiums run between $25 and $50 a month for an individual and MinnesotaCare has low deductibles. It is a bridge to the middle class for the working poor. The Minnesota Senate continues to support MinnesotaCare as does Governor Dayton.  The bill is now in Health and Human Services Omnibus Conference committee and will soon be voted on.
Call Speaker Daudt and Senate Majority Leader Bakk. They need to hear from you!
Sincerely,
ISAIAH Health Equity Team
P.S. You can also email them by coping and pasting this text:
