SaySo Ministries, Inc  - 2015 Journey Into Holiness

Greetings Ladies,

I praise God for you. Pray you are praying for our upcoming annual Women Retreat October 29-31, 2015; and with our gathering together in worship on Sunday November 1, 2015. We have wonderful speakers for Sunday:  Minister Kenta White & Minister Phaedra McLin.

Our topic:  Journey Into Holiness - The Future of GOMER; Experiencing God. Operating in the depth of His Power. We will be studying the book of Hosea. I also encourage those who will, to read a book that I've found gives another look at what Gomer's past may have been.  The book title is:  "Redeeming Love" by Francine Rivers. But, as the editor cautions, and I agree,  to first-time readers: "In this retelling of the biblical story of Hosea and Gomer in an 1800s setting, Francine was faced with some difficult choices. Scripture deals openly and frankly with Gomer’s marital infidelity and prostitution. How much “detail” then, should Francine include to bring that impact into a fresh setting?" The story tells of "Love that won't let go no matter what."

We will discuss excerpts from this book during the retreat. Yet, if you do not purchase the book read the book of Hosea and the historical references.

We look forward to our gathering.

Theresa Russell

Tuesday, October 13, 4:30 pm
Minneapolis Public Schools – Davis Center
Faith & Community Leaders Rally in Support of MPS Decision to End Non-Violent School Suspensions
A call for accountability from the MPS school board to uphold moratorium & to expand into middle school
St. Paul – (October 11, 2015) 50 ISAIAH members who are parents, school stakeholders and community members will rally to publicly affirm Minneapolis Public Schools’ (MPS) decision to end all non-violent school suspensions grades pre-k though 5, a decision made by Interim Superintendent Michal Goar, and galvanized & organized by people of faith.
"With on-going racial equity gaps in Minneapolis Public Schools and the recent controversy of Reading Horizons racist curriculum, it’s clear black, brown and Native American students are being sent a message that they are inferior to their white counterparts. This insidious tone in our public schools is destroying our children’s self esteem and it is denying them from embracing their full self worth. We must begin to tell a new story that affirms the sacred dignity of every child, especially black children, and embraces their brilliance which is often overlooked in our school culture, systems, classrooms and discipline policies.” – Rev. Paul Slack, ISAIAH President
The group plans to call on MPS school board and school officials to expand the moratorium into middle schools; to reduce racial disparity in suspensions; and to remain committed to the moratorium with accountability, transparency and full implementation of MPS’ Behavior Standards Policy.
WHAT:
Press conference with 50 ISAIAH faith, community and education leaders to call for expanding and reinforcing the moratorium through accountability and transparency.
WHO:
Michal Goar, Interim Superintendent, Minneapolis Public Schools (invited to speak, not confirmed)
Rev. Paul Slack, ISAIAH President
Rev. Laurie Eaton, Our Saviours’ Lutheran Church, Minneapolis
Marry Pratt, grandparent of children in Minneapolis Public Schools
Michelle Deziel, member of a coalition of parents, staff and students fighting against Reading Horizons and for community control of curriculum and schools
Joanne Campbell Suddeth, People of Color union member, Camphor Memorial UMC, St. Paul
Carol Markham-Cousins, former principal, Washburn High School in Minneapolis
WHEN/WHERE:
Tuesday, October 13, 4:30 pm
Minneapolis Public Schools headquarters, Davis Center
1250 W. Broadway Ave., Minneapolis
WHY:
ISAIAH people of faith see the outcome of a successful implementation of the moratorium as one major step in addressing the racial equity crisis and the school-to-prison pipeline permeating in our state’s public schools. However, more must be done to create racial equity in Minneapolis Public Schools.
Visuals include people of faith in front of MPS headquarters building with signs that say #EndSuspensions, #DignityInSchool, #BlackChildGenius

##
ISAIAH, a non-profit coalition of over 100 congregations from various faith traditions working in the Twin Cities, St. Cloud and greater Minnesota, is committed to establishing racial and economic justice. ISAIAH is a member of the PICO National Network.
