Date: Fri, Feb 22, 2019 at 1:48 PM Subject: Critical Announcement - Please Announce Sunday and Mid week My Sisters and Brothers, we had a powerful gathering yesterday. Bishop Kemp brought forth a compelling word from the Lord and our sister Telis Houston informed us concerning a crisis in our midst in respect to the treatment of our children and families once they enter the child protection/ foster care maze. We desperately need to support the legislation being authored by Senator Hayden, Representative Moran and supported by Senator Champion. It is called the African American Family Preservation Act. The statistics recounting our community experience and the actual testimony of what families have gone through is horrifying. We decided to mobilize as a church network. We are having a community wide information and strategy meeting on next Thursday February 28th at 7:00 PM at New Salem MBC 2501 Bryant Ave North in Minneapolis. Please announce the Thursday meeting and if you are able please attend. this is a crisis, but this is an issue that we can address. Please call with any question. The Women’s Auxiliary Building Effective Ministry Instructor Sis. Sylvia Amos Have a hundred questions about developing an effective women’s ministry? In this class, we will help you understand the need, where to begin, leadership development and more. Throughout Scripture, we see how God placed women together in relationships to encourage one another and provide a place of retreat. God continues to place women together for mutual support, accountability, and friendship. That is why we need women’s ministry in our churches today. 2. Church Leadership Instructor Dr. Billy G. Russell Leadership is key to the success of any organization; especially the church. Come learn and discuss the most recent church trends and what actions leaders can take in order to remain relevant to the current and next generation. 3. Thrivent Lifetime Stewardship - TBA 4. Music Department: A Look Down Memory Lane Instructor Dr. B. Charvez Russell Come and learn the origins of the choirs, Gospel choirs, their songs, and the greats that acted on the call of the Lord to get us to where we are today. As the church prepares for the next shift, it is important to know from whence we have come. This class will also give you the opportunity to submit topics of interest that will be covered throughout the week. 5. Ministers Division (Byrd – Neely- Young – Medlock): “The Ministry of the Second Chair” Instructor Dr. James Thomas This course seeks to clarify the ministry of the Associate Minister as well as how they are a blessing to the Senior Pastor. This course will also discuss how the season of serving as an associate can be the nurturing place for potential Senior Pastors. 6. Ushers Department A Call to Serve: The Ministry of Church Ushering Instructor Sister Allie Jacox The flow of Worship Service is extremely important, and ushers have the great responsibility of helping the service flow with dignity, decency, and order. This course will show how the National Silent Uniform System of Church Ushering can enhance any church service, regardless of the denomination. Therefore, this class will provide information pertaining to and opportunities to practice the following: the History of Church Ushering, Signs and Signals, Ushering in the Isle, Collecting Offering, Ushering at Programs, and Ushering at a Funeral or Ritualistic Services for Deceased Church Usher. Text: United Church Ushers Manual 7. Youth Sis. A. Thomas The Devil Really Does Wear Prada…or was that Nike…or Pelle…or Adidas…. (Luke 16:1-14) “More seasoned Christians” [politically correct term for us older guys] are always talking about stewardship, tithing, laying up treasure, sending up timber, serving two masters, and the like; but what does that stuff really mean? Does God REALLY expect that I shouldn’t have nice clothes or a comfortable house or the latest gadgets? Doesn’t He want me to do my best so shouldn’t I ALWAYS be FIRST have the MOST and be the BEST? Shouldn’t my #1 Priority be me, Me ME?!! We’ll see if we can make it through week starting with “Gimme More Monday” followed by “Take It off Tuesday.” Next there is “No Label Wednesday” if you dare, and we maybe even contemplate a “No Frills Friday!” Gotcha!!! Okay, maybe we move that one to Thursday, but you get the point. There are specific things that you need to know when it comes to not only wasting what has been allotted to you, but also setting your focus in the wrong direction because every action comes with a consequence. Then, you simply won’t believe what happens on Friday! Well…that’s all we’re going to say about that! To be continued Friday…. 8. The Doctrine of Prayer Instructor Dr. Glorestine Creighton The class is designed to teach the fundamental purpose, principles, and power of prayer. This course will look into prayer as the channel of communication of the believer to the Father. 9. Laymen – No Man Left Behind – Men Reaching Men Bishop Divar Kemp 10. The Dr. Earl F. Miller School of Ordination - Instructor Dr. Earl F. Miller This class, with the cooperation and support of Pastors, and local congregations prepares candidates to successfully complete the catechizing exam and serve as an asset to their pastor and local congregation. This class begins during the congress session and continues into the spring and summer months. To enter this class, one must present the following documentation: A) A letter of consent and support by the students Senior Pastor. B) Letter documenting their active involvement in ministry in their local congregation. C) A copy of a valid Ministerial License to Preach the Gospel, in the event the student seeks to become Ordained Clergy. 11. The New Testament Instructor Dr. Herbert Thomas This course seeks to present a sample of the priceless teachings of the New Testament contained in four biographical sketches, one brief historical abstract, twenty-one letters, and one short prophetic digest. This course will group the New Testament books according to their major emphasis i.e. Christian beliefs, believers, and behavior.   |
