ACT Review for Underrepresentated High School Students.

2018 ACT Review for Underrepresented High School Students
College admission tests often operate as gatekeepers that deny equal educational opportunities to
certain groups of students. In 1991, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. joined forces with the University
of Minnesota to offer a free ACT/SAT review course for students from historically underrepresented
groups, including minority and female students. The 2018 edition of this course will begin:

Date: Saturday, January 13, 2018
Time: 9:00am to 1:00pm
Duration: Ten (10) weeks
Location: University of Minnesota West Bank Facilities, EXCEPT--
Week 1 is in Bruininks Hall 230 (East Bank).

The program seeks to give students a better chance at attending the college of their choice and
also to prepare them to be successful once there, by providing both opportunities meant to
increase college admission test scores and to inform them for entry into higher education. These
will include: practice tests, advising on the college and scholarship application processes, interaction
with current college students and leaders in the community, financial planning information/strategies
and supplementary instruction on content areas, test taking skills, time management and more.

A summary of this year’s program is as follows:
January 13 …….............. Introduction to ACT and College Prep Program
January 20 ...................... Mock ACT Test #1
January 27 ...................... ACT 101: Testing Strategies / High School-to-College Transition
