GFMBC Announcements
Friendship Academy of the Arts is excited to host our Freedom School Program from June 23 through July 31, and we would love for you to be a part of this life-changing experience!
We are inviting community leaders, business professionals, clergy, parents, grandparents, mentors, and friends to serve as Read Aloud Guests during our daily Harambe sessions.
As a Read Aloud Guest, you will have the opportunity to:
• Read a children's book to our scholars
• Share a brief message about the importance of reading and education
• Inspire the next generation through your presence and encouragement
Freedom School is designed to cultivate a love of reading, build leadership skills, and empower young people to make a positive difference in their communities. Your participation helps our scholars see the many successful and caring adults who are invested in their future.
Reading sessions typically last 20–30 minutes and can be scheduled at a time that works best for your availability. If you are interested in serving as a Read Aloud Guest, please sign up below using the link or scan the QR code to schedule your visit.
Thank you for helping us create a community where every child feels seen, valued, and inspired to learn. Together, we can help our scholars discover the joy of reading and the power of their own voices.
We look forward to welcoming you to Friendship Academy of the Arts Freedom School!
Dear Community,
It’s Open Road Fund (ORF) season! Applications reopen tomorrow on Juneteenth (June 19) at 9 am CT for our fourth grantmaking year.
Through 2031, Nexus is disbursing $50,000 gifts to 100 people each year that can be used for housing, education, financial well-being, healing, and economic justice wealth-building projects.
This community fund was created to serve Black descendants of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, especially formerly incarcerated folks, single parents, senior citizens, those living with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ folks.
There are no income caps or minimums, people can apply individually or as a group, and applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:
Age 14 and up
A resident of Minnesota, North Dakota, or South Dakota
A Black descendant of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, including the Caribbean, North, Central, and South America
Now’s the time for us to forge paths toward liberation on roads paved by our
ancestors—on our own terms. Are you ready to apply?
See Deacon Thomas Westbrook or Brother Donald Turner to sign up.
